The Growth of Twitter
The Product Life Cycle

In March 2009, Twitter only accounted for 14M unique visitors (new visitors) compared to Facebook's 91M and MySpace's 55M. This statistic doesn't say much, but when you compared Twitter's March 2009 to Twitter's February 2009, they grew 100%! This is a fantastic sign that twitter has the growth potential of Facebook and MySpace. And with Oprah joining in April 2009, except another great jump in Twitter unique visitors.
Twitter's 52 Week change is 1,202% compared to Facebook's 195% and MySpace's -11%. Again, Twitter is growing the fastest, Facebook is slowing down, and MySpace is losing ground. Nothing ground breaking here, but understnad where each medium is in it's product life cycle.
Tumblr is too early in existence for a testable business method, but like any new technology, it is on our radar.

The graph below shows google searches and new stories of the 3 social networks. As you can see as we saw above, Twitter has doubled in the last month or two, even surpassing Facebook on news volume, and Myspace plateaued over a year ago.

Can you see where everyone is going? Is it clicking yet?
You don't need fancy analytic reporting to tell you Twitter is growing fast, 6 months ago you didn't hear anything about Twitter on the TV, and now you hear about Colbert on the Today Show (nsfw?), Shaq and Mark Cuban's tweeting back and forth, and even the President of the United States is the number one follower on Twitter.
Understanding where Twitter is today and where it is going is important to understanding how much sales you can get compared to tomorrow. By building your foundation on Twitter today in this recession, who knows what kind of sales you are capable of when the economy turns and Twitter is the number 1 social medium.
